Morocco’s OCP renews commitment to African agricultural development

Rabat – OCP Africa in Morocco has renewed its Fertilizer Group’s commitment to contribute to agricultural development in Africa.
The group unveiled its strategies and initiatives to help Africa in times of crisis at the Argus Africa Fertilizer event held February 8-10 in Nairobi, Kenya.
During a panel discussion, Habiba Mouttaki, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Morocco, OCP Africa, recalled the OCP Group’s recent initiative. The initiative consisted of him delivering 550,000 tons of fertilizer to help the continent mitigate the effects of rising commodity prices and drought.
This initiative has helped him serve more than 4 million farmers across the continent.
A representative from OCP Africa emphasized that the initiative reflects the group’s commitment to accelerating its distribution network development strategy through several programs, including Farmer Houses.
Mouttaki emphasized that the Farmer Houses project was designed to improve the accessibility of products, services, and agricultural knowledge. “There was also talk of initiatives aimed directly at farmers, such as support, capacity building, training and market links,” she added.
Mouttaki also recalled the importance of OCP’s farmer centers and school laboratories, as well as her OCP Africa AgriBooster program, which connects farmers to markets through partnerships. These initiatives have served her more than 530,000 farmers in Africa.
“These key programs in OCP Africa are part of a policy to improve access to fertilizer,” she said.
Commenting on the current crisis hampering the agricultural sector in Africa, Mutaki said the situation offers opportunities for players in the fertilizer sector to innovate and provide better solutions. Commenting on OCP’s participation in the event, Mr. Hatim Ramim, Deputy Managing Director of OCP Kenya, said the symposium was intended to build relationships with new partners, strengthen existing partnerships, and bring together the various stakeholders and knowledge bases in fertilizer exchange. On Friday, OCP Africa tweeted that Kenyan agronomists from the group also emphasized the importance of healthy soils to support sustainable agricultural growth and the group’s commitment to providing tailored fertilizers to farmers. .
