Zambia continues to experience severe load shedding, despite recent heavy rainfall and flooding. The prolonged drought that began in early 2024 drastically reduced water levels in key reservoirs like Lake Kariba, severely limiting hydroelectric power generation for both Zimbabwe and Zambia. While recent rains have improved water levels – rising to 476 meters with 9.6% usable storage as of early March 2025 – and power generation capacity has increased slightly, it has not yet recovered enough to fully meet demand.
