Uganda joined the global celebration of World Egg Day with a vibrant event held at Old Kampala Secondary School, aimed at promoting poultry farming among the youth. Organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) in collaboration with the Uganda Poultry Farmers Association, the event drew hundreds of students, educators, and agribusiness stakeholders.
Themed “Eggs for a Healthy Future,” the campaign emphasized the nutritional benefits of eggs and their potential to drive youth employment. Government officials highlighted that poultry farming contributes significantly to Uganda’s GDP and offers a low-barrier entry point for young entrepreneurs. Demonstrations on egg incubation, feed formulation, and disease control were conducted to inspire hands-on learning.
The event also featured success stories from young poultry farmers who have scaled their operations through digital platforms and microfinance. MAAIF pledged to expand access to training programs and subsidized inputs for youth-led poultry ventures.
