Nairobi, Kenya — The 2025 Africa International Agricultural Expo officially opened Tuesday in Nairobi under the theme “Increasing Agricultural Productivity in Africa through Innovation and Market Access.” The event aims to deepen China-Africa cooperation in modern agriculture and position Africa as a global hub for agri-innovation and trade.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Paul Kipronoh Ronoh, Principal Secretary in Kenya’s State Department for Agriculture, emphasized the strategic importance of the expo in accelerating agricultural transformation across the continent. He noted that the exhibition has attracted over 150 exhibitors, including 100 from China, highlighting Kenya’s emergence as a regional center for agribusiness and innovation.
“The expo serves as a continental platform to promote innovation, technology adoption, and market access as key enablers of agricultural transformation,” Ronoh stated. He added that the event reinforces Kenya’s commitment to regional and global agricultural partnerships, particularly through the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and the African Union’s Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Program.
Chinese Ambassador to Kenya, Guo Haiyan, underscored the significance of China’s participation, noting that more than 100 Chinese agribusinesses are showcasing innovations ranging from seed breeding to food processing. She highlighted the potential of these technologies to support smallholder farmers in increasing yields, reducing post-harvest losses, and building resilience against climate shocks.
“Chinese companies are not only presenting products but are actively seeking partnerships, investment opportunities, and shared growth with African farmers and enterprises,” Guo said.
Tito Mutai, Chief Executive Officer of Agri-Africa Exhibition, announced that five bilateral agreements were signed during the expo between Chinese and Kenyan entities. These agreements are expected to enhance investment and trade in the agricultural sector, reinforcing the shared vision of transforming agriculture into a driver of food security, inclusive growth, and job creation.
AgriFocus Africa will continue to monitor developments from the expo and provide in-depth coverage of emerging partnerships, innovations, and policy frameworks shaping the future of agriculture across the continent.
