Available in
Ghana has unveiled the Timbuktoo AgriTech Hub in Accra, a new initiative aimed at transforming the country’s agricultural sector through digital innovation and entrepreneurship.
The hub is designed to tackle real-world challenges across the agricultural value chain while accelerating the growth of Africa’s AgriTech ecosystem.
Driving Innovation Across Agriculture
The Timbuktoo AgriTech Hub will bring together start-ups, investors, incubators, and ecosystem partners to develop technology-driven solutions for agriculture. Key partners include United Nations Development Programme, 500 Global, and Seedstars.
The initiative will focus on deploying tools such as:
- Data-driven agricultural platforms
- Mobile-based solutions
- Artificial intelligence technologies
- Digital infrastructure for farmers and agribusinesses
These innovations aim to improve productivity, strengthen supply chains, and expand market access across the sector.
Government Backing and Vision
Speaking at the launch, Samuel Nartey George urged African entrepreneurs to harness technology to reshape agriculture and build more resilient food systems.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to creating a supportive environment for innovation through policy reforms, strategic partnerships, and investment mobilisation.
Supporting Start-ups and Scaling Solutions
A core component of the hub is its support for early-stage businesses. The initiative will provide:
- Access to catalytic and commercial funding
- Capacity-building programmes for incubator managers
- A bootcamp to strengthen entrepreneurship support systems
This approach is expected to help start-ups scale solutions that address persistent sector challenges such as climate change, limited financing, and inefficient markets.
Strengthening Africa’s Food Systems
Agriculture remains a cornerstone of Africa’s economy, yet it continues to face structural constraints. By integrating digital tools and fostering collaboration, the Timbuktoo AgriTech Hub aims to unlock new opportunities for farmers, agribusinesses, and investors.
The initiative reflects a broader continental push toward innovation-led agricultural transformation, positioning Ghana as a key player in advancing technology-driven food systems in Africa.
