More than 500 agricultural stakeholders gathered in Ibadan, Nigeria, on July 18, 2026, for the Africa Agribusiness Summit 2026, organised by agricultural consultancy Farmdev Consult.

Held at Zonta Multipurpose Hall in Jericho, the summit brought together industry leaders, farmers, agripreneurs, policymakers, students and NYSC Agro-Allied CDS members under the theme, “Transforming Africa’s Agricultural Landscape: Driving Profitability, Sustainability, and Food Security.”

The event focused on moving African agriculture beyond subsistence farming towards more structured, profitable and commercially driven agribusinesses.

Farmdev Consult Managing Director and summit convener Samuel Oluwatobi said agriculture remains central to economic growth and food security, stressing the need to increase food production while making the sector more commercially sustainable.

Representing the Oyo State Government, Executive Adviser to the Governor on Planning, Budgeting and Economic Matters Alhaji Gaffar Bello urged stakeholders to embrace stronger branding, standardisation and value addition to make agricultural products more competitive.

Speaking virtually, The Fufu Factory founder Kehinde Omojuyigbe called for smarter investment in agriculture, noting that well-managed agribusinesses can support farmers, create jobs and strengthen food security.

Technology and Agribusiness Investment

Speakers including Tundelaniran Farms’ Babatunde Olaniran and Melora Farms’ Alfred Ukane highlighted the role of export processing, automation and technology in improving farm productivity and profitability.

Participants also discussed challenges surrounding affordable financing, access to large-scale off-takers and land acquisition.

Farmdev Consult further demonstrated its commitment to agricultural education by awarding ₦300,000 in research grants to six final-year students from the University of Ibadan, Federal College of Forestry Ibadan and Federal University of Technology Minna. Each student received ₦50,000 to support field research, data collection and laboratory work.

Farmdev City to Expand Agricultural Production

The summit concluded with the unveiling of Farmdev City, a planned 2,000-acre agricultural hub with potential to expand beyond 15,000 acres.

The project is expected to combine crop and livestock production with food processing, research and storage facilities, while addressing post-harvest losses and improving access to wider markets.

The summit highlighted the growing push to connect agricultural knowledge, technology, investment and government support to build a more productive and commercially viable African agriculture sector.
