HYDAC offers a range of clean water solutions for the agricultural industry, from manual cleanout basket strainers and screens to fully automatic self-cleaning filters. An innovative solution for the farmer requiring clean water for irrigation is the HYDAC AutoFilt® Twist Flow Strainer (ATF). The ATF is an automatic self-cleaning filter and will protect pumps and nozzles from damage by removing sand and other particles from the water.

The ATF uses innovative hybrid technology to separate heavier particles by centrifugal action with a secondary wire mesh filter to guarantee the filtration rating and prevent contamination to the clean side. The ATF is designed to handle very high dirt loads with no rotating parts and minimal maintenance. Continuous filter operation is possible as only part of the flow is used during the automatic cleaning process.

Traditionally sand, mixed media and disc filters have been used to clean irrigation water. These older technologies, while initially cost effective, become more expensive to own over time. As the pressure loss through these filters increase, more power is used, and backflushing wastes a substantial amount of water. The sand or mixed media also needs to be replaced every few years adding to the on-going costs.

The pressure drop across the ATF at its rated flow is very low and does not increase over time. The volume of water used to self-clean is a small fraction of a sand filter. This more efficient operation results in a direct power and water saving to the farmer. These savings combined with continuous automatic operation, minimal maintenance and a more compact installation ensures the total cost of ownership of the ATF is less than traditional mixed media filters. The HYDAC ATF is the better filtration solution for smart future farming.
