Abengourou – The President of the Pan-African Initiative for Integration and Development, Coulibaly Soumaïla, highlighted the mechanization of agriculture as a key solution for climate adaptation at the local level, during a conference on the theme “A livable planet for all: let’s accelerate climate adaptation” and moderated by climate specialist, Konan Bertin.
“Our agriculture is old, it must change form, it must be mechanized to take up less space, therefore less forest, and gain in productivity,” declared Mr. Coulibaly, believing that the change in cultivation method will make it possible to face climatic challenges and better manage climatic hazards.
The President of the Pan-African Initiative for Integration and Development stressed the importance of sensitizing all countries to the consequences of climate change, which is pushing more and more people to migrate. He stressed the need to put in place strategies to prevent a massive influx of migrants and avoid “unsustainable pressure” on host countries.
Organised in collaboration with the NGO ‘Migration and International Climate’, this conference is part of the International Cooperation Day and is chaired by Mayor Hervé Patrick Adom.
It also aimed to co-construct advocacy and solutions to actively support the climate adaptation of vulnerable populations impacted by climate change, so that they can adapt sustainably in their living environment.
The municipal councilor in charge of the environment and climate drew the population’s attention to the dangers of climate change and encouraged them to become more involved in the fight.
