Nigeria is turning to Zimbabwe for guidance on modernizing its agricultural sector. During a visit to Harare, Nigeria’s agriculture minister, Abubakar Kyari, met with Zimbabwean officials, including President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Minister of Land Dr. Anxious Masuka, to discuss mechanization strategies and reforms that Harare used to transform the country’s agriculture industry.
The Nigerian minister highlighted Zimbabwe’s agricultural advancements over the past five years and emphasized the importance of technology-driven farming to attract younger Nigerians to agriculture. He noted that mechanization could address challenges posed by Nigeria’s growing population by improving efficiency and crop turnaround. Zimbabwe’s success, supported by partnerships like a Belarusian deal to supply over 3,000 tractors and 80 combine harvesters, offers valuable lessons for Nigeria, which wishes to achieve food sufficiency and sustainability.
