Senegal–Türkiye Tractor Deal to Power West Africa’s Mechanization

Senegal has entered into a landmark agreement with Türkiye’s Albayrak Group to establish a tractor assembly plant in Dakar, a move poised to revolutionize agricultural mechanization across West Africa. The deal was finalized during Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko’s official visit to Türkiye and aligns with Senegal’s “2050 Vision” to reduce food imports and enhance local production.
The new facility will assemble tractors for both domestic use and export to neighboring countries. It will be complemented by a vocational school that trains farmers and technicians in modern agricultural practices, and a robust after-sales support system that includes spare parts and maintenance services.
Backed by the African Development Bank, the initiative is expected to create thousands of jobs and position Senegal as a regional hub for agricultural technology. Albayrak Group, which has existing operations in Guinea, will deploy its subsidiaries TÜMOSAN and Sukkar to lead the project. Expansion plans include outreach to Gambia, Sierra Leone, and Somalia.
“This is not just about tractors—it’s about sovereignty, skills, and self-sufficiency,” Prime Minister Sonko remarked during the signing ceremony.
