Ogun State has secured a $250 million investment in its agricultural sector following plans by Pure Dairy Herds to establish a large-scale dairy farming operation aimed at boosting local milk production, creating jobs and strengthening Nigeria’s dairy value chain.
The investment was announced after company representatives met with Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun at the Governor’s Office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, where the project was presented as a major step towards expanding the country’s livestock industry and reducing dependence on imported dairy products.
Major Dairy Project Planned for Ogun State
Pure Dairy Herds confirmed it is partnering with international experts to develop a modern dairy farm that will serve as a major milk production hub in Nigeria.
The company has already secured the land required for the project, with construction expected to begin once the planned groundbreaking ceremony takes place within the next two to three weeks.
The dairy operation will be located in Ogun West Senatorial District, where it is expected to stimulate economic activity while supporting livestock development and agribusiness growth.
Investment Driven by Business-Friendly Environment
The company said its decision to invest in Ogun State was influenced by the state’s investor-friendly policies, improving infrastructure and favourable business climate.
It also cited the rapid development taking place in Ogun West as a key factor, noting that expanding infrastructure provides an enabling environment for large-scale agricultural investments.
While the initial investment is valued at $250 million, the company indicated that the project’s value is expected to grow further as operations expand.
Boost for Nigeria’s Dairy Industry
Industry stakeholders believe the development could become one of Nigeria’s largest privately funded dairy projects, helping to increase domestic milk production and reduce the country’s reliance on imported dairy products.
Beyond improving national dairy output, the investment is expected to strengthen the livestock sector through technology transfer, modern farming practices and improved production systems.
The project is also expected to generate significant employment opportunities during both the construction and operational phases while contributing to Nigeria’s broader food security objectives.
New Opportunities Across the Dairy Value Chain
The investment is expected to create new business opportunities for farmers, suppliers and small and medium-sized enterprises operating throughout the dairy value chain.
Potential beneficiaries include livestock producers, animal feed manufacturers, transport operators, milk processors, packaging companies and distribution businesses.
As Nigeria continues to encourage private-sector investment in agriculture, the project further strengthens Ogun State’s position as one of the country’s leading destinations for agribusiness and industrial development.
