The Africa Food Systems Forum 2025 opened this week in Dakar, Senegal, with a strong focus on youth leadership and innovation in agriculture. The three-day summit brings together policymakers, agribusiness leaders, researchers, and farmers to chart a path toward sustainable and inclusive food systems across the continent.
“This is Africa’s moment to redefine its agricultural future,” said Dr. Agnes Kalibata, President of AGRA, during the opening keynote. “Young people are not just participants—they are the architects of tomorrow’s food systems.”
Sessions have spotlighted climate-smart agriculture, digital farming tools, and inclusive financing models. One highlight was the launch of the Africa Agriculture Status Report, which provides data-driven insights into productivity, resilience, and market access.
Youth-led startups from Kenya, Nigeria, and Ghana showcased innovations ranging from AI-powered irrigation systems to mobile platforms that connect farmers with buyers. The forum also emphasized gender equity, with panels exploring how to empower women in agribusiness.
As Africa faces mounting challenges from climate change and population growth, the forum’s collaborative spirit offers hope for a more resilient and equitable agricultural landscape.
